Clinical Trials Financial Analyst

The is responsible for forecasting expenditures and analyzing the finances of a variety of clinical trials and provide research investigators with reports for active research trials. The Clinical Trials Financial Analyst will advise senior management on potential problematic accounts and implement continued improvements in processes, policies, and procedures to nurture an environment which fosters optimal productivity and service to our investigators in keeping with AREF's standards of excellence. The Financial Analyst works closely with the Controller, Chief Operating Officer, and Contracts/ Grants Administrator. Responsibilites include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provides forecasts for costs in clinical trials.- Manage budgets for projects by:
assisting the Chief Operating Officer, Contracts/ Grants Administrator and Principal Investigators (PIs) in developing budgets pre-award as needed; developing final budget at time of award; monitoring and projecting spending on an ongoing basis; approving personnel requests assuring availability of funds; setting up new budgets annually in CYMA; reviewing monthly account statements. - Develop new and augment existing spreadsheets used in grants management. Monitor and manage spending in PIs Administrative accounts. Assist PIs with grant submissions as needed. Negotiate budget agreements with PIs for new industry sponsored projects. - Assist Chief Operating Officer with special projects. Provide input on improvements to AREF's services, systems, policies and procedures. Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for position. A bachelor's degree in accounting, business management or related field is desired. At least two years of experience working in a sponsored program environment or equivalent accounting skills/experience. Proven experience managing contracts and grants with knowledge of federal agency policies and procedures, e.g., OMB circulars such as A-122 and A-110. Understanding of research administration. Experience with accounting/project software. Strong ability with spreadsheets, computer applications such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to work independently as well as in a team, and to communicate financial information, set priorities, meet deadlines, and solve administrative problems with a professional attitude. Position requires a self-motivated individual with refined organization and communication skills. Excellent verbal/ written communication skills and analytical abilities. Strong ability with spreadsheets, computer applications such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access. Customer service focused. Working knowledge of federal regulations and funding agencies practices, private sector funding and contracts requirements, and compliance with legal requirements related to research administration.
