The ideal candidate should currently be working in the Congress of the United States-US Senate or US House of Representatives--or in the private sector at a law firm, corporation or trade association and have relevant experience in U. S. public policy and political affairs drawn from experience working on Capitol Hill. The position will interface with the key business functions within Cisco including but not limited to Cisco Legal, Tax, and Internet Business Solutions (IBSG), Cisco Federal Team regarding our public policy strategies in the areas of legal and other corporate issues. The ideal candidate should have extensive public policy and political experience (at least ten years) from a combination of government, and private sector experience. The skills required for this position are likely to be from one of the following with experience from more than one:
. Committee Counsel or Policy Director for Congressional Committee or Subcommittee in the following issue areas:
judiciary, commerce, finance . Chief of Staff or Legislative Director for a Member of the United States Senate or House of Representatives with special consideration given to staff from Leadership offices (especially in the House of Representatives) . Counsel to a law firm, other corporation or trade association with skills sets acquired from the positions mentioned above or head-or principal player--of a Washington, DC office of technology company or association Build Cisco's Washington profile-both on Capitol Hill and within the current and future U.S. Administrations--as thought leader on public policy in the areas of legal reform, corporate governance and other corporate priorities. Work closely with WWGA team members based in SJ, DC (and on occasion our global team members) to coordinate legal reform policy with other local, national and regional policy initiatives. Coordinate with members of the Advanced Technology team to serve as in-house lobbyist and advocate for their issues in such issue priorities as broadband, wireless, immigration, trade policy, etc. Coordinate a cross-functional group of Cisco stakeholders to collaborate and drive consensus on public policy issues and initiatives important to economic stimulus and reform and other corporate policy goals including corporate tax reform; work with public officials and Cisco member trade associations and other organizations designed to help Cisco achieve our policy goals. Work with Office of the President, the General Counsel and other top executives in support of our legal and policy initiatives Provide executive support and direction for interfacing with senior government officials working cross-functionally with area experts. Participate in association meetings, political events, and executive briefings as needed. Prepare white papers, policy briefings and issue highlights for internal and external communications. Hire and manage outside consulting and association as well as issue coalition resources. Help coordinate all US political activities, including candidate fundraising, ePAC distribution and employee involvement with elected officials. Build relationships with like-minded companies-both within and beyond the technology community-to strengthen support for Cisco's policy objectives. Job Description:
