A staff member may be appointed to term status for a specific term not to exceed three years in order to accomplish a specific purpose or when the duration of funding is limited or unknown. Duties:
The position involves overseeing an ongoing study of mothers and young children (up to two years of age) who were exposed to the Iowa Flood of 2008 (while the children were still in utero). The study, supported by the Canadian Institute for Health Research, is a collaborative effort led by Michael O'Hara, Department of Psychology, University of Iowa and Suzanne King, Douglas Institute Research Center and Department of Psychiatry, McGill University, Montreal Canada. To assist in conducting a large clinical-developmental psychology project by gathering data, processing data (coding, data management), and participating in other research tasks, all performed as part of a research team that includes other staff members and graduate and undergraduate students. Help coordinate the work of the laboratory that includes approximately 5 graduate and undergraduate students and staff Recruit families with young children to participate in the study Schedule laboratory visits for mothers and their young children Collect data from mothers and their young children during those visits (including weekends and evenings) Conduct psychometric assessments with children and mothers Operate video equipment to record the sessions Code the videotapes of parents and children, compute reliability (kappas, alphas), train other coders Conduct preliminary data management (entry, proofing, etc.) Help design laboratory paradigms and questionnaires for parents and children Remain involved in other research activities, e.g., organizing and maintaining files Assist RA-II in liaising with Douglas Hospital staff Education Required:
B.A. or B.S. in psychology required or an equivalent combination of education and experience Experience Required:
Research experience in a psychology laboratory Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Desirable Qualifications:
Very attentive to detail, very well organized, very responsible Willing to learn new skills, such as techniques of behavioral coding, data management, etc. Experience in completing standardized psychometric assessments Experience with very young children and their parents Capable of team work Online Application Options Application Type:
