N Return to Previous Page Introduction The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in one of the following topic areas:
Cognitive Engineering, Materials Sciences, Computational Electromagnetics, and Nanotechnology Applications. Responsibilities This position is for a Postdoctoral Researcher in a Science or Engineering field in the Milton S. Eisenhower Research Center. The Milton S. Eisenhower Research Center is a research and advanced technology development organization within JHU/APL. Its mission is to create breakthrough technologies and develop expertise in critical areas for the benefit of the Laboratory and its sponsors. Leading-edge scientists and engineers conduct long-term mission-inspired research, convert research results into technology demonstrations, and work with other Laboratory business areas or directly with national security and civilian space sponsors to transition these technologies to operational systems. In the execution of its mission, the Research Center staff collaborates extensively with the academic divisions of Johns Hopkins University, other universities, government laboratories, other research centers, and selected commercial companies. We seek Postdoctoral Researchers with demonstrated talent that have a strong interest in creating breakthrough technologies for the operational superiority in the missions of JHU/APL sponsors. Of the 150 research center staff members, approximately half have doctoral degrees and 10% have Research Faculty appointments in the academic divisions of Johns Hopkins University. The academic disciplines represented on the staff include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Molecular & Cell Biology, Materials Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Cognitive Science. Research areas include information processing and management, biotechnology, nanotechnology, materials, technology for advanced detection and tracking, and cognitive engineering for human dynamics. The diversity of research work and technical expertise allows and encourages a strong interdisciplinary and collaborative environment for post doctorate research. Conduct independent research in the subject field. A research plan will be developed with an assigned JHU/APL mentor during the post doctoral appointment. Write proposals, and meet with external research sponsors and representatives of business areas within JHU/APL to determine needs and opportunities. Perform research on externally sponsored programs in the same or related fields, under the guidance of JHU/APL principal investigators. Qualifications Required:
US Citizenship, and PhD degree in a relevant science or engineering domain. All requirements for the PhD degree must be completed prior to assuming the position. Security Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
