A traditional legal education is no longer sufficient to educate an international lawyer. Rather, greater education in international law and in international affairs is needed to practice law in the globalized 21st century. Modern international lawyers require a broader contextual understanding, not only of the law but also of the disparate societies and institutions in which it is made, interpreted, and applied. The Fletcher LLM in international law provides that understanding. Taught by a distinguished international law faculty with extensive real-world experience, the program addresses the historical, political, cultural, and economic framework within which contemporary international lawyers operate. It provides superb preparation for a new or continuing career in international or non-governmental organizations, government agencies, international businesses and law firms, diplomatic missions, foreign and defense ministries, media, or other international institutions. Two additional distinctive features of the program are a three-day intensive capstone workshop at the Tufts European Cener in Talloires France and a research colloquium ("High Table") offering regular presentations by faculty, visiting scholars, guest practitioners, and students. The Fletcher School seeks an experienced professional for a new position, Associate Director, LLM Program. The Associate Director is responsible for the growth and management of the new LLM program as well as leading all aspects of the Program including:
academic and co-curricular support, admissions and career services, budget and administrative issues under the supervision of the Faculty Director. The Associate Director must be a strong internal networker to coordinate services with the School's professional staff who have overall responsibility in these areas. This individual serves as the central administrative contact for students enrolled in the LLM degree.Basic Requirements:
* J.D. or advanced degree is required * Five plus years of related experience is also required. * Competency in the full range of Microsoft Office applications * Familiarity with and knowledge of international affairs and international legal issues highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to manage a vibrant and complex program. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Ability to establish and maintain productive, collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, potential donors and university administrators. Fletcher is a highly matrixed organization and the ability to work collaboratively across functional units is essential to maximizing the potential of the LLM program.Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents and diverse populations (including international students) is required, as is excellent communication and leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications:
Administrative experience in a competitive, selective institution of Higher Education is preferred. Prior experience in law would be a plus. Prior experience teaching would be a plus. Special Works Schedule Requirements:
