This is a limited appointment position with an end date of June 30, 2012. This is also a grant-funded position and is not eligible for severance pay. The Institute for Applied Research in Youth Development is a laboratory within the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development at Tufts University and is dedicated to the positive development of young people through research, outreach, and education. The Institute seeks a candidate who can improve the efficiency of the competing demands of science and project management and will put innovative systems into place for ensuring the timely and high-quality completion of project tasks for its available position of Research Project Director. The Research Project Director will work with the Bergstrom Chair in Applied Developmental Science to provide leadership in the planning, implementation, and analysis of multivariate and, typically, longitudinal data for various research projects undertaken by the Institute. The Research Project Director will also:
* Supervise and offer leadership to staff and doctoral and master's students to assure the timely and high-quality completion of scientific tasks; * Make scientific judgments about how to balance scientific priorities with management and administrative tasks; * Identify new grant opportunities and play a leading role in the writing and submission of grant applications; * Participate in meetings with funders or other collaborators; * Identify publication opportunities, develop and draft manuscripts, and represent the Institute at scientific conferences and other meetings where the work of the Institute is being presented; * Train staff and students in data analysis techniques; * Envision new ways of utilizing the existing data within the Institute.Basic Requirements:
* Ph.D. or Ed.D. * Minimum of five (5) years of related experience (post-doctorate) * Proficiency in SPSS and Microsoft Excel * Initiative, problem solving skills, multi-tasking skills, and excellent collegiality and collaborative skills are needed. The person must be able to serve the multiple constituencies of the Institute:
funders, youth, parents, schools, and programs with which we work, and the scientific community in ways that are efficient, productive, ethical, and of the highest quality. The Research Project Director must be able to take a leadership role and responsibility for their area of work and, at the same time, contribute as part of a scientific leadership team, to the work of other staff and students Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate should have a doctorate in a field related to developmental science. More than five (5) years of post-doctorate experience is preferred. A record of published scientific research, complex data analysis skills (including the utilization of SPSS and ideally STATA, SAS, HLM LISREL and ACCESS), advanced methodological skills, scientific writing, and scientific presentations is ideal. Successful experiences in grantsmanship, in longitudinal, multivariate research, in scientific publication and speaking, and in managing large quantitative scientific projects are preferred. Special Work Schedule Requirements:
