Perform professional work requiring knowledge of application and use of concepts, theories, principles, practices, and terminology of financial accounting and budgeting. Analyze and review financial data and prepare consolidated and divisional financial/budget reports consistent with a comprehensive understanding of Institution's mission and strategic plans, academic and healthcare operations, and the role and goals of the business units in accordance with applicable accounting principles, and university policies and procedures. Develop, analyze and conduct complex financial analyses to assess the financial statement and/or budget impact of strategic financial plans and programs and to monitor results. Integrate, where applicable, generally accepted financial and accounting principles, theories and concepts in the budgeting and reporting process. An advanced level of professional judgment is required. Minimum Requirements:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree preferably in accounting, business, or finance and a minimum of 24 months related analytical, financial, and budgeting experience. Preferred:
Preference may be given to applicants with higher education experience; and/or with CPA. Key Functions and Expected Performances:
* Develop work papers and analyses necessary to support the University's financial statements. * Format, design and prepare non-routine, complex financial/budget reports and schedules to meet the needs of a variety of users. * Assemble, analyze and review complex information to assimilate into summary reports for mid- to executive management. * Develop outlines and compile drafts of presentations for mid- to executive management using a professional approach and format, thoroughness, and analytical and out-of-the-box thinking. * Develop PC based analytical tools for financial analyses. * Analyze financial information, exercising professional judgment and knowledge of university policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles, and financial reporting standards. * Develop appropriate and sufficient supporting documentation to provide a logical and sequential progression of assumptions and decisions for current and historical reference purposes (commonly referred to as "supporting work papers"). * Use analytical approach to evaluate and review budget and actual data from multiple constituents for reasonableness, accuracy, consistency, appropriateness of classifications, and variance reporting. * Utilize advanced functions of spreadsheet, database and presentation software applications (e.g., MS Office Suite). * Utilize download and import/export functions, database query tools, and database applications (e.g., Business Objects, MS Access, SQL)/ * Evaluate and recommend improvements in financial/budget processes, procedures and reporting. * Other duties and special projects as assigned.
