00) Work Location Central Campus Worksite Address 2 Hillhouse Avenue Position General Purpose Under the general supervision of Professor of Psychology, the individual will assist in setting-up and maintaining a new Positive Emotion and Psychopathology Lab. Essential Duties 1. Assist with setting up the laboratory, including ordering and setting up research equipment for use in the experiments. 2. Assist in the hiring, training, and oversight of undergraduate student aides. 3. Recruit (fliers, website, telephone, newspaper ads emails, and Yale University Experiment Sign-Up System), screen, and schedule study participants. 4. Assist with experimental design (e.g. create questionnaires; create stimuli presentation using E-prime, and/or Medialab). 5. Data collection:
Administer online surveys (e.g., using Surveymonkey), conduct structured clinical interviews, administer computerized tasks (e.g., using EPrime and MediaLab), and hook-up and record psychophysiological recording data (e.g., MindWare, BIOPAC). 6. Score/code and enter data on the computer. Oversee data cleaning and analysis (using Excel, SPSS). 7. Assist in creating, managing, and maintaining multiple databases (e.g., participant tracking, data, follow-up using Access and/or FileMaker). 8. Maintain project-related documents and materials, including IRB protocols and budgets. May assist in writing first drafts IRB amendments, progress reports to IRB and funding agency. 9. Maintain lab website and web-based assessments (e.g., using Surveymonkey, WordPress). 10. Write first draft of findings, prepare data summaries, figures and graphs for publication (e.g., using Powerpoint, Word). 11. Conduct library searches using electronic databases (PsycInfo, Medline, Google Scholar); find articles in libraries and on line. 12. Assist with lab organization (filing, reprints). 13. Order and maintain inventory of equipment, office and lab supplies. 14. Perform incidental office duties (photocopying, mailings, errand running, etc.). Education and Experience 1. Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Additional Education and Experience 1. Experience operating BIOPAC and/or MindWare equipment. 2. Experience using SPSS and Excel software. 3. Experience conducting research in clinical psychology. 4. Experience interacting with people with severe mental illness (i.e., bipolar disorder, major depression, and/or schizophrenia). 6. Experience training and supervising undergraduate research assistants. 7. Previous experience using programming software (e.g., MediaLab and/or E-prime). 8. Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology or a Masters degree in related field; two years minimum experience conducting psychology research experiments. 9. Coursework in statistics, clinical psychology, developmental psychopathology, personality and/or social psychology, biological psychology, and psychology of emotion. 10. Experience writing manuscripts for publication in psychology journals. Skills & Abilities 1. Working knowledge of computers, both PC and Mac OS systems. 2. Proficiency creating graphs using Excel and/or Adobe Photoshop. 3. Proficiency with video editing and converting software (e.g., EyeTV). 4. Excellent interpersonal, written, research and organizational skills. 5. Strong attention to detail. 6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 7. Proven ability to effectively supervise undergraduates and delegate responsibilities. 8. Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks well. 9. Ability to travel outside CT for participant recruitment and conference presentations.
