Tracking Code 6909 Job Description Senior Administrator of School Services, Safety and Security Position Summary: Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Safety and Security in the Office of School and Youth Development, the Senior Administrator of School Services, Safety and Security works with OSYD staff and schools to ensure effective policies and procedures relating to school safety, student suspensions and hearing offices and school emergency preparedness. Performs related work. Reports to: DeputyChief Executive Officer for Safety and Security Direct Reports: N/A Key Relationships: The Senior Administrator of School Services, Safety and Security works closely with Borough Safety Directors and other OSYD senior staff, schools, and Children First Networks (CFN), as well as the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), New York Police Department (NYPD), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and other city agencies. Responsibilities: * Researches and develops best practices and ensures consistent and effective application of policies as they relate to safety and school climate. * Ensures the proper and consistent implementation of safety and security measures as related to students, employees, facilities, and property. * Reviews Chancellor’s Regulations regarding school safety and security and works with Office of Legal Services to revise and update as needed to align with state and federal mandates, court decisions and DOE policy. * Works with schools to create and sustain a comprehensive team approach to support Impact and non-Impact Schools. * Conducts comprehensive school assessment reviews and works with school leaders and networks to help them develop and implement the identified changes, new strategies and new procedures. * Works with school leaders and networks to develop and implement Action Plans that help to integrate the issues of safety and security with student support services and instructional programs. * Provides on-going support and technical assistance to Impact and non-Impact Schools. * Assists Impact schools and other targeted schools to implement policies and procedures to ensure a safe and secure environment in schools. * Works collaboratively with OSYD and CFN staff to ensure consistent and effective application of policies and procedures, as they relate to safety and school climate, and school emergency preparedness. * Works with Children First Network staff to provide on-going technical assistance to ensure that the suspension and transfer processes afford students in Impact Schools with alternative learning environments that provide meaningful instructional support and guidance interventions. * Participates in identifying system and school needs. * Works with Borough Directors for Safety, Children First Networks and schools to identify programs and strategies that support students with diverse needs that provide training and support on anti-bias teaching and that help to implement and sustain conflict resolution and peer mediation programs and training in Impact schools. * Assists the Deputy CEO for Safety and Security to communicate the Department of Education’s goals and initiatives regarding safety and security. Qualification Requirements: Minimum Applicants must possess a valid New York State certificate in School Administration/Supervision (SAS), School District Administrator (SDA) or in School Building Leadership (SBL) as well as a Certificate of Eligibility for Supervisory Placement or a valid New York City license in the specific area for which they are applying.
