Manage laboratory operations and provide technical assistance to members of the Stem Cell Biology and Bioengineering Research Group. Oversee and maintain laboratory inventory, order and maintain supplies and radioisotopes, and maintain lab equipment. Serve as laboratory safety manager, implement lab safety protocols, update safety training records, and act as liaison with department safety officer and the UCSD Office of Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S). Plan for changing research needs, investigate and evaluate equipment options, and arrange lab space. Respond to inquiries from research and administrative personnel in order to maintain productivity. Oversee and maintain laboratory supply budgets and utilize Financial Link for financial oversight. Supervise and provide direction for lab assistants by assigning duties, scheduling work hours, and managing performance. Collaborate with other lab personnel on research and perform techniques including but not limited to atomic force microscopy, rheology, confocal microscopy, PCR/qPCR, radioactive assay (pulse-chase), immunofluorescence, and stem cell culture. Provide support for IRB, ESCRO, and IACUC proposals and lab procedure documentation. Provide training and guidance to graduate students and junior research associates with research projects and lab/animal protocols. Document experimental results and provide support in the preparation of manuscripts, publications, and grant proposals. ~~ Must be willing to work in an animal research related environment with human embryonic stem cells QUALIFICATIONS:
* Theoretical knowledge and experience in immunofluoresence, cell culture such as typically acquired by a Bachelors Degree in an Engineering or Biology * Demonstrated ability to manage a specialized laboratory. Experience and aptitude for management of laboratory personnel with regards to experimental direction, time management, and work performance. * Experience using and maintaining lab equipment, including pipettes, incubators, centrifuges, balances, and pH meters. * Knowledge and working experience with computers and software including Excel, Word. * Knowledge of basic lab safety requirements and procedures. PREFERRED:
* Knowledge and experience of purchasing procedures, maintaining budgets and utilizing IFIS. * Knowledge of html and website design. * Knowledge of animal care procedures and protocols. * Experience with small animal surgery, and microsurgical skills.
