They compel all students to excel by concentrating on engaging every child in learning and by holding students to high standards. Primary tasks:
Guidance Curriculum 1. Provides leadership and collaborates with other educators in the school-wide integration of a comprehensive ASCA school model. -- Implements Guidance Curriculum lesson plans in school classrooms. -- Provides applicable materials and resources to teachers for doing guidance activities in their classrooms. 2. Implements developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals. -- Conducts classroom guidance lessons such as character education. -- Conducts small and large group activities based on the guidance curriculum. Individual Student Planning 3 Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals and plans. -- Conducts counseling sessions with students. -- Appropriately guides students in developing goals based on individual data and other relevant information. 4. Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data. 5. Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational and career planning. -- Sends written communications to parents/guardians and teachers -- Apprises teachers of adaptive materials and services that exist and are available to students. Preventive and Responsive Services 7. Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs. 8. Consults and collaborates effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs. -- Advocates for equity and access for all students. -- Provides staff with resources to accommodate individual differences and needs of students. 9. Implements an effective referral and follow-up process. -- Manages and communicates a clear means for counseling referrals and other access to counseling services. 10. Accurately and appropriately uses assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services. 11. Coordinates the Safe Schools and Communities Program System Support 12. Provides appropriate information to staff related to the comprehensive school counseling program. -- Informs staff of services provided by the school counselor and how to access those services. 13. Assists teachers, parents/guardians and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data. 14. Participates in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills. -- Attends professional conferences, workshops, etc. relevant to school counseling. 15. Uses available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program. 16. Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession. -- Monitors/supervises student activities as appropriate. Required Education/Skills:
The applicants will(a) have documented competence in counseling children and adolescents in a school setting and will be(b) licensed by the State or certified by an independent professional regulatory authority; or(c) in the absence of such State licensure or certification, possesses national certification in school counseling or a specialty of counseling granted by an independent professional organization; or(d) holds a minimum of a master's degree in school counseling from a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs or the equivalent.
