STATE CORPORATION COMMISSION EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Senior Utilities Safety Engineer Starting Salary Range:
$69,942 - $90,925 The Division of Utility and Railroad Safety seeks an individual to perform regulatory compliance oversight of natural gas and hazardous liquid pipeline facilities in the Commonwealth. The selected candidate will plan, coordinate and oversee the Division's pipeline safety inspection and investigation program, manage safety staff, and review and approve staff's reports and findings. In addition, the individual will conduct field inspections of pipeline facilities, construction activities and safety records to determine compliance with safety regulations as well as investigate complex pipeline issues and make recommendations. When necessary, this employee will provide expert testimony before the Commission. Some travel will be required. QualificationsApplicants must have eight or more years of professional experience in engineering, pipeline safety and management and a four year degree in Engineering. In lieu of a degree, applicants must have 12 years of the aforementioned professional experience. Applicants must exhibit thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering as applied to design, construction, operation, maintenance and inspection of gas and hazardous liquid pipeline facilities. The ability to efficiently and effectively manage people is essential. The ability to analyze data and reports and make appropriate recommendations is required. Must be able to effectively use a computer and the related software, including Microsoft Office applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, industry personnel and the general public. Applicants must be available for on-call duty as needed and be willing to traverse rough terrain in order to conduct inspections and investigations.
