Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Vice President of Data Center Business Unit, this position is responsible for the development and implementation of data center strategies including facility design, site selection, construction, and engineering services. This leadership position will be considered the "core competency" for design and engineering services for all future data center expansions and existing data center modifications. The position requires partnering with operations, project management, chosen vendors and corporate leaders to achieve stated objectives. The role includes concept design, business case/budget development with Product Management and FP&A, testing and analysis. The position will be required to provide insight and industry benchmarking, best practice guidance, and short term and long term facility planning. Familiarity with Green Grid initiatives and LEED certifications is helpful. Summary of Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
* Responsible for the strategic planning, concept and final design, construction budget and schedule, and ultimate delivery of all new data center space. * Plans, budgets and schedules facility modifications including budget forecasts, equipment estimates, labor, materials and other related facility expansion costs. * Works with Purchasing and Operations to manage budgeting and negotiations for building projects adhering to published corporate and procurement guidelines. * Provides leadership and directs tasks associated with the bringing on-line new data center facilities. Works closely with site management to ensure smooth transition to building operations. * Designs data center space expansions with product management requirements that meet current and future customer demands for power and space and cooling. * Provide direction to Project Management, vendors and general contracts ensuring excellent communication, project tracking, budget controls, and target attainment. * Develop long-range growth strategies that will contribute to the return on sales and return on operating assets to meet the Company targets and objectives. * Contributes and develops standards and procedures for Project Manager(s) to ensure Internap quality in Data Center facilities. * Work closely with VP, Data Center & Field Operations on the development of functional goals and objectives. Qualifications:
* Recent experience with Tier III data centers of at least 50,000 sq ft of computer room space * Demonstrated ability to manage multiple. projects simultaneously and across numerous geographical areas. * Experience in the development of "leading edge" design and facilities. * Expertise in site selection process, real estate services, architectural and design services, and other related construction/build support teams. * Prior experience managing programs between $20 million and $100 million including new and retro-fit projects. * Expert knowledge of critical systems including power, cooling, fire, safety systems. * Demonstrated knowledge of critical systems including redundancy and "single point of failure" solutions. * Demonstrated experience in management of complex/cross functional IT projects including experience with business and technical issues. * Four-year engineering degree or related degree and/or equivalent field experience. * Extensive experience/knowledge of mechanical and electrical contracting, design, finance and management required. * Ability to identify and resolve problems independently. * Ability to travel and work flexible hours.
